Zero Cases reports growing demand for its new range of anti-vandal

products following nationwide riots

Zero Cases, the UK’s leading manufacturer of protective cases, containers and
enclosures, is reporting growing demand for its new range of anti-vandal products
following the riots which broke out across England this summer.

The Smethwick-based company has developed an enclosure to prevent flat-screen
televisions and monitors from being damaged or stolen. Made from aluminium and
toughened Perspex, the enclosure is available in a variety of sizes and with different
types of mount.

The company’s engineers – who normally design products to ensure cargo and
equipment, everything from laptops to engines, are fully protected when transported
by air, land and sea – began work on the design earlier this year after being
approached by a leading television manufacturer.

Mike Dimmack, plant manager for Zero Cases, said: “This manufacturer, a household
name, asked us to come up with a solution for protecting televisions and monitors
installed in places such as bars, hospital waiting rooms and libraries, anywhere in fact
where there is public access.

“The required specification was very precise. As well as being tamper-proof and
vandal-proof, the enclosure had to look pleasing to the eye and not reduce the quality
of the television picture or prevent the remote control from working. It was a tall
order but we were still able to produce a prototype in less than two weeks.

“The enclosure will withstand a brick or hammer attack and we are confident a
television or monitor inside it will not be damaged. The mounting forms part of the
enclosure, which means it’s practically impossible to wrench it off the wall.”

During the recent rioting, a striking feature of the television coverage was the images
of looters stealing televisions from shops and other premises. Zero Cases realised
its anti-vandal solution – now available as an off-the-shelf design – could interest a
wide range of businesses keen to prevent this kind of criminal activity. A leafleting
campaign in the Birmingham area and networking activities with Made in the
Midlands attracted a stream of new enquiries.

“We’ve now been approached by all sorts of businesses, from bookmakers to pub and
restaurant chains,” Mike Dimmack added.

“Orders are already starting to come in. Our anti-vandal range could be worth several
hundred units per year and complements our existing products for the automotive,
aerospace, commercial and defence sectors.”
